behind the Collective

Our Philosophy

This photographic collective has developed its ethos over the last 2 years.  It was about maintaining our creativity and a creative connection with others. It is designed to be accessible and grassroots in concept. You are encouraged to look and see the world around you, your ways of seeing is unique to your experience and how you live. T

This photographic collective has developed its ethos over the last 2 years.  It was about maintaining our creativity and a creative connection with others. It is designed to be accessible and grassroots in concept. You are encouraged to look and see the world around you, your ways of seeing is unique to your experience and how you live. This is what we gain the most from the project, how others see the world.

The Creative Process

The project was designed to fit into busy and complex lives. A title and strict criteria of size, finish and orientation meant that the emphasis was about capturing the title in the way that you see it. Prints, posting and  reflecting on the success or disappointment is all part of the collective sharing and togetherness

Lecturer, curious magpie of all things colourful, beautiful and unique.

Textile Designer at her heart, avid drawer, love a good view and always hunting for the perfect combination of colour, texture and composition in my imagery.

For 50 years I have been a Textile Artist and Designer, over the years designing interior textiles for many high street names. Textile Design requires a constant stream of inspiration to reinvent and reimagine fabric designs. This industry need has embedded the love of drawing, detail, colour, surface and the beauty of the every day in my ways of seeing.

Photography has always been there with me feeding my design eye and practice. As well as a industry designer I worked as an academic inspiring new generations of textile designers. Whilst working with University Textiles students I liaised with Art for Life and instigated 17 live projects resulting in displays through out the hospital over the course of 7 years. Some of these are still in evidence.

This project and now realised exhibition ‘noticing the now’ is for me a celebration of the workers within the NHS and the support I have received through 2 bouts of cancer. The reason that the project has opened at the Musgrove Hospital is because of the care it has given me and I hope it gives joy to hospital workers and visitors as inspiration

Photography has been a lifelong passion, yet, it wasn’t until joining the Conversation group that I fully grasped the solitary nature of the craft—often confined to one’s own creative echo chamber. This experience has been a revelation, enriching my artistic journey through shared themes and interpretations. Receiving prints and witnessing fellow collaborators' responses to each prompt has become a true highlight.
